Ransomware payments no guarantee
3 Oct 2025
Paying a ransomware demand is no guarantee that your precious business data will be restored.Â
Research by Veeam found that fewer and fewer companies are actually getting their data back after a ransomware attack. For them, paying the ransom merely makes the full cost of business recovery even greater.Â
Veeam found that only about a third of businesses who paid up recovered their data, down from around half in the prior year. The number of organisations who were able to recover their data without paying up in the same time period was just under a third.Â
Ransomware accounts for 11% of cyber attacks reported to the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD).  Â
As of 30 May this year, Australian businesses with an annual turnover of more than $3M must report any ransomware or cyber extortion payments to the government within 72 hours of making the payment or becoming aware of it.Â
At Generic Systems Australia we have decades of experience helping local businesses keep cyber thieves at bay through deployment of the world’s best MFT, GoAnywhere.Â
