  • How to Secure Online Data Acquisition with Secure Forms | GSA

< News How to Secure Online Data Acquisition with Secure Forms 3 Feb 2026 Whenever you ask someone to complete a form online, you’re asking for their trust. They’re handing over details that your organisation needs. In return, they expect your organisation to handle those details in confidence and with care. From payment methods to sensitive medical histories, people want assurance that their information won’t fall into the wrong hands. Earn Trust with Secure Forms Using HTTPS to transmit form data is a solid baseline. However, there’s an even stronger and more structured alternative - Secure Forms. An add‑on module for GoAnywhere Managed File Transfer , Secure Forms not only protect the information being submitted but also streamline how that information moves through your business. Secure Forms offer far more than encrypted submissions. You gain control over how forms look, how they’re accessed, and how the collected data flows into your internal systems. Public or private URLs, automatic encryption for uploaded files, and seamless workflow integration all come standard. Why It’s Worth Upgrading Choosing a purpose‑built Secure Forms solution doesn’t just improve protection - it boosts efficiency across your processes. With GoAnywhere Secure Forms, you can: Build tailored forms for authenticated users or open access Let users upload supporting documents as needed Support drag‑and‑drop file attachments, automatically encrypted with AES‑256 Define your preferred media types Add Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and Threat Protection Embed forms directly into your website Use Advanced Workflows to route submitted data into platforms like Salesforce or other business systems Trigger email notifications when submissions are received Insert submitted data straight into a database table. How Secure Forms Work At Generic Systems Australia we have years of experience designing custom Secure Forms for organisations. Or, you can DIY… Build and configure: design a form with the fields and options your process requires. Then share access through either a public or restricted URL, giving you full control over who can submit information. Complete and protect: Users fill out the form and attach any necessary files. Every uploaded item is encrypted automatically using AES‑256, ensuring sensitive content stays protected from the moment it’s submitted. Submit and automate: Once the form is sent, GoAnywhere triggers the workflow you’ve defined. This removes manual steps and ensures the information moves quickly to the right system or team. Customisation Without Compromise Secure Forms are built to adapt to your needs. You can fine‑tune nearly every element, from field labels to file‑upload rules, giving you complete control over the data you collect. You’re able to: Configure fields, dropdowns, tooltips, and default values Accept a wide range of file types Submit forms via SOAP or REST APIs, or directly through a URL Display personalised confirmation messages and provide downloadable follow‑up files (such as PDFs) Redirect users to additional forms after submission Enable or disable submission notifications Set limits on file size, type, and quantity Receive alerts via email or SMS Transform submitted data as needed Allow users to save drafts and finish later. Trust the Secure Forms with a Track Record Recognising GoAnywhere’s advanced capabilities, some software vendors have recently sought to emulate the tried-and-tested Secure Forms approach within their less fully-featured MFT solutions. However, trust is established over a long time. GoAnywhere’s Secure Forms were introduced 2016, and so benefit from a decade of refinement and successful implementation. Here to Help Whether it’s designing and implementing your Secure Forms, or talking more broadly about how MFT can help your business become more secure and efficient, Generic Systems Australia is here to help. No need to do deal with hands-off multinationals and their odd time zones - we’re right here in Australia, right now, ready to help. Previous Next

  • How GoAnywhere integrates with your Hybrid Cloud | GSA

< News How GoAnywhere integrates with your Hybrid Cloud 2 Oct 2025 Recent research by IMARC Group and Forrester shows Australian organisations increasingly using Hybrid Cloud as a strategic bridge between legacy systems and modern cloud-native applications. Hybrid Cloud enables them to modernise without abandoning critical infrastructure. By integrating on-premises environments with public cloud platforms, businesses can maintain control over sensitive or complex legacy workloads while gradually introducing scalable, agile cloud-native services. This duality enables seamless data flow, API-driven interoperability, and phased migration strategies—essential for industries bound by compliance or technical debt. GoAnywhere MFT — the world’s leading Managed File Transfer solution — facilitates businesses on this path by offering “ Cloud Connectors ” that seamlessly integrate GoAnywhere with external cloud services. Also referred to as “cloud integrations”, Cloud Connectors offer out-of-the-box connectors for GoAnywhere to popular services including Salesforce, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Box, and Dropbox. For example: One a trading partner might ask you to share an important file it via a folder in Dropbox. Or perhaps there are contacts or billing information to be updated automatically in Salesforce. GoAnywhere’s Cloud Connectors enables these tasks to be done easily and securely. Broad Range Cloud Connectors are easily downloaded from GoAnywhere MFT’s integrated Marketplace, which features Connectors for the most commonly used cloud services. These include: • Alibaba Object Storage Service • Amazon Cloud Trail, CloudWatch, EC2, Lambda, SNS, and SQS • Atlassian JIRA • Automate Plus • Azure Data Lake Storage Gen1 (superseded by Gen2) and Storage Queue • Box • Citrix ShareFile • Dropbox • Egnyte • GateScanner CDR • GoAnywhere Command • Google Cloud Storage, Drive, and Translate • JAMS • Jenkins • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, 365 CRM, OneDrive, Sharepoint Online and Sharepoint On-Premise • OPSWAT MetaDefender • Salesforce • ServiceNow • SMA OpCon Scheduler • SOS Berlin JobScheduler (Online version not supported) • Trello • Veeva CRM • Votiro • Webdocs • Zendesk (Online version not supported) Configuring Cloud Connectors Once a Cloud Connector is installed, its connection properties can be configured as a GoAnywhere Resource. This only needs to be performed once, and can then be seamlessly reused in any workflows and cloud file transfers. A Cloud Connector definition contains the various actions required to communicate with cloud applications. For example: authentication logging file transfer file management and error handling. In GoAnywhere, these actions appear as elements located under the Cloud Connector in the GoAnywhere Project Designer. Elements can be incorporated into a business’s workflows alongside other project tasks, and processes can even be automated between multiple web and cloud services at once. New GoAnywhere connectors can be downloaded without needing to update the software. No Connector? No problem While GoAnywhere Marketplace contains a broad array of Cloud Connectors, you may also want to connect to a unique external service. Custom connectors are the answer. And at Generic Systems Australia, we can design and develop Custom Connectors for you, using GoAnywhere’s Cloud Connector Designer. If you’d like to discuss how your organisation’s file transfers to external cloud providers can be made more efficient and secure, please feel welcome to get in touch with me. I’m always happy to have an obligation-free discussion, explain how easy it is to transition to an improved file transfer approach, and offer you a zero-cost Proof of Concept. • 55T Australian File Transfers in 2025 – How We Calculated that Number | GSA

< News 55T Australian File Transfers in 2025 – How We Calculated that Number 20 Jan 2026 We recently shared that Australians performed about 55 trillion file transfers in 2025. Here’s how we were able to arrive at that total. More than Manual When we talk about digital activity, we tend to picture the visible layer: emails, shared documents, cloud uploads, and messaging app attachments. However, these human‑initiated actions represent only a sliver of the real story. Beneath the surface lies a vast, automated, always‑on ecosystem of backups, sync operations, content delivery networks, and machine‑to‑machine exchanges. No dataset directly reports “file transfers,” so I needed rely on authoritative adjacent metrics: including internet usage, cloud adoption, CDN penetration, and digital‑behaviour statistics. Using AI to comb and extrapolate from available data sources, I built a structured model which quantifies each of the contributing layers. Human‑Initiated File Transfers (~82B) I began with the most intuitive category: files deliberately sent or uploaded by people. Using Australia’s 2025 population (~27M), daily internet usage (97%), and workforce composition, we modelled two groups: • Digital workers sending ~22 files/day (email attachments, cloud uploads, collaboration tools). • General consumers sending ~2.3 files/day (messaging media, photo uploads, social posts). This produced a national total of ~225M files/day, or ~82B per year. Significant, but only the beginning. Automated System Backups (~11T) Modern organisations rely heavily on incremental cloud backups. We estimated: • ~200,000 Australian organisations using automated backup • ~5M files represented in each organisation’s backup set • ~3% of files changing daily This yields ~30B backup‑related file movements per day, or ~11T annually. Backups alone dwarf all human‑initiated activity. Cloud Sync Events (~115B) Cloud sync is the quiet workhorse of digital life - photo libraries, document updates, app data, and multi‑device workflows. With ~60% of Australians using at least one active sync service and ~20 sync events per user per day, we estimate: • ~314 million sync events/day • ~115 billion/year CDN Object Transfers (~34.4T) Every webpage or app screen is assembled from dozens of discrete objects — scripts, images, stylesheets, media chunks. We modelled: • ~300 page/app requests per user per day • ~15 objects per request • ~80% served via CDN This produces ~94B CDN object transfers per day, or ~34.4 trillion per year. This is the single largest contributor. Machine‑to‑Machine Movement (~11.4T) Microservices, logs, IoT payloads, replication events, and internal API calls generate enormous background traffic. Using a conservative multiplier (25% of the combined backup + sync + CDN volume), we estimate: • ~11.4 trillion M2M object movements annually The Total: 50–60T Transfers Summing all layers — human, automated, infrastructural, and machine‑driven — produces a national estimate of ~55T file and object transfers in 2025. Humans account for less than 0.2% of the total. The rest is infrastructure talking to itself. Why This Makes MFT a Must When file movement reaches this scale, traditional ad‑hoc transfer methods — email attachments, unsecured FTP servers, manual uploads — simply cannot cope. They lack visibility, governance, encryption consistency, and auditability. Worse, they create blind spots where sensitive data can leak or compliance obligations can be breached. Managed File Transfer (MFT) provides a structured, policy‑driven, encrypted framework for moving data across systems, partners, and cloud environments. It centralises control, enforces security, and ensures every transfer — human or automated — is logged, governed, and compliant. In a world where trillions of transfers happen without human involvement, MFT isn’t just a convenience. It’s the backbone of digital trust, operational resilience, and regulatory assurance. Here to Help At Generic Systems Australia , we’re Australia’s and New Zealand’s experts in helping businesses implement and take advantage of MFT solutions. We’ve assisted dozens of organisations to make their file transfers resilient, secure and reliable — boosting their efficiency in the process. If you’d like to discuss what MFT can do for your organisation, please feel welcome to get in touch with me. I’m always happy to have an obligation-free chat and explain how easily we can transition you from your current approach to the world’s leading MFT solution, GoAnywhere . Previous Next

  • Top Cyber Security Agency Reports on Most Common Cyber Threats to Businesses | GSA

< News Top Cyber Security Agency Reports on Most Common Cyber Threats to Businesses 3 Dec 2024 The latest annual report by Australia’s top cyber security agency – The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) – contains sobering details about the challenges being confronted daily by Australian businesses. Describing the current cyber security strategy environment as “the most complex and challenging … since the Second World War”, the ASD says advancements in critical and emerging technologies dramatically improve the ability of cyber thieves targeting Australian organisations. Cyber Crime Increasing ASD received more than 36,700 calls to its Australian Cyber Security Hotline during the 2023-24 financial year - up 12% on the previous year. It responded to more than 1,100 cyber security incidents, and notified organisations of potential malicious activity on their networks more than 930 times. However, these numbers are merely the tip of the iceberg relative to the total number of attempted hacks. ASD characterised cybercrime as “a persistent and disruptive threat”. Contributing to the surge in cyber crime is the availability of new opportunities and technologies such as artificial intelligence. This is reducing the level of sophistication needed for cybercriminals to operate, and attracting new criminals to the field. Top Business Threats Compromised business email accounts (20%) and fraud (13%) were among the top self-reported cybercrimes for businesses and individuals in Australia during the last financial year. Online banking fraud accounted for a further 13% of incidents. Ransomware and data theft extortion (stealing data without encrypting their victims’ systems) also remained a pervasive and costly threat. The top 5 sectors reporting cybercrimes to law enforcement were: Retail trade (15%) Professional, scientific and technical services (13%) Construction (12%) Financial and insurance services (8%) Other services (7%) Average Losses by Businesses Interestingly, the average self-reported cost of cybercrime to Australian business fell slightly vs the previous financial year: Small businesses: $49,615 (down 8%) Medium businesses $62,870 (down 35%) Large businesses $63,602 (down 11%) However, it’s worth bearing mind recent research which shows a large number of businesses did not report ransomware payments in 2023-24. Cybercrime Reports by State and Territory Australia’s more populous states continue to report more cybercrime, with Queensland and Victoria reporting disproportionately higher rates of cybercrime relative to their populations. The highest self-reported financial losses were from victims in NSW (~$86,000 per cybercrime) followed by Victoria (~$66,000). Common Cybercrime Techniques The ASD says Credential Stuffing – using stolen usernames and passwords to access other services and accounts via automated logins – is one of the most common cyber attacks. Another common technique is Password Spraying - a brute-force attack where cybercriminals attempt to access a large number of accounts with commonly used passwords. Quishing - Quick Response (QR) phishing – is another growing threat. Cybercriminals use QR – for example, on a café menu, or a subtly altered public notice - to trick people into providing personal information or downloading malware onto their smart device. Combating the Threats In its report, ASD urges organisations to replace unsupported information and communications technology systems with secure-by-design products, and consider cyber security when implementing new technologies. Two great examples of secure-by-design protective technologies are those that we recommend at Generic Systems Australia. Managed File Transfer (MFT) is a technology which enables organisations to securely exchange data between systems and people in an automated, reliable and efficient way. Advanced Threat Protection adds a further layer of defence, seamlessly integrating your managed file transfers with adaptive data loss prevention to keep sensitive data secure. ASD also urges organisations to prepare a cyber security incident response plan and test it regularly to ensure an effective response and fast recovery. The process of developing such a plan will help an organisation understand the nature of its most valuable data, where it is stored, which systems and individuals have access to it, and how it is protected – or exposed to – malicious threats. Obtaining Expert Help At Generic Systems Australia , we have many years of experience helping Australian and New Zealand IT teams protect their valuable data with the very best MFT solutions. • The GoAnywhere Customer Who Didn’t Panic | GSA

< News The GoAnywhere Customer Who Didn’t Panic 20 Aug 2025 In Douglas Adams’ much-loved work of science-fiction whimsy, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the Babel Fish is a small yellow fish inserted into a person's ear to provide instant translation of any language.  Described by The Guide as “probably the oddest thing in the universe”*, the Babel Fish is a neat (if somewhat slimy) solution to the pervasive galactic challenge of interspecies communication. It reminds me how GoAnywhere MFT once solved a customer’s pressing “payslip-up”. “But the plans were on display…”* Our customer, a leading provider of human services who employs thousands, had installed a new payroll system. This system, like the outdated system it was replacing, produced employee payslips as PDF files. These were subsequently distributed to employees via a separate Human Resources system. Installation, testing and initialisation of the new payroll system had all gone according to plan. Until, that is, the first pay run was performed. “Have you any idea what these strange symbols are?”* In what The Hitchhiker’s Guide may well have cited as “a practical demonstration of the principles of infinite improbability” employees didn’t receive their payslips. It was soon realised that the problem had occurred because the PDF payslips produced by the new payroll system were formatted differently to the PDFs previously produced by the old one. (The old system had output the PDFs as individual PDF files for each employee, compressed into a zip file. The new system output one PDF file for each employee and, further complicating the situation, the new payslips varied in number of pages.) These PDF formatting changes rendered the output from the new payroll system unreadable by the Human Resources system - a problem which had somehow been overlooked during testing. “The consequences of not knowing any of this stuff are particularly terrible”* This failure of inter-systems communication wasn’t just a problem for the employees, who had understandably grown accustomed to keeping tabs on their earnings, but it created a looming compliance problem for the business. Australia’s Fair Work Act is vexingly inflexible when it comes to the timing of providing employees with payslips. (This is in marked contrast to the famously flexible relationship with time enjoyed by The Guide’s author Douglas Adams, particularly as relates to deadlines). Failure to fix the problem quickly would expose the business to financial penalties, legal consequences and potential union action. “Don’t Panic!”* Heeding the single most important piece of advice in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy , our customer didn’t panic. Instead, they called me to ask whether Generic Systems Australia could help solve their predicament. And - thanks to their installed GoAnywhere Managed File Transfer solution – we could! The Babel Fish* Faster than a Vogon invited to a poetry recital**, our Solutions Architect revised the customer’s GoAnywhere automated file transfer process. GoAnywhere was already collecting the PGP-encrypted PDF from the new payroll system via SFTP, decrypting it, and transferring it to the customer’s Human Resources system. He added to that automated transfer process new logic which split the PDF pages, correctly formatting the output and allowing for payslips of varying page lengths. GoAnywhere was, in effect, performing the role of a computerised Babel Fish. And, thanks to GoAnywhere’s easy to use drag-and-drop interface, it took our Solutions Architect less than half a day to set up the workflows. He didn’t even need a towel***. “If you ever need help again…”* There’s no need to go to the ends of the universe**** to get expert help on file transfers and translations. At Generic Systems Australia , we’re Australia and New Zealand’s experts in helping business take advantage of every one of GoAnywhere’s many capabilities. We’ve assisted hundreds of organisations to automate their data flows, making their file transfers resilient, secure and reliable, and boosting their efficiency. If you’d like to discuss how we can boost your organisation’s efficiency, please feel welcome to contact me . I’m always happy to have an obligation-free chat and explain how easily we can transition you from your current approach to a galaxy-leading level of productivity. At Generic Systems Australia, we’re your local experts in data transfer. _______________________________________________________________________________________ * A direct quote from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy . ** In The Guide , Vogon poetry is described as the third worst in the universe, surpassed only by the poetry of the Azgoths of Kria and the late Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings. It's so bad, it's often used as a form of torture, causing physical pain to the listener. *** The Guide describes a towel as the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have - not just useful for practical purposes like warmth, sunbathing, or even as a weapon, but also with significant psychological value. A hitchhiker who knows where their towel is is seen as someone together and capable, as it implies they also possess other essential items. **** The Guide describes Milliways, the Restaurant at the End of the Universe, as being enclosed in a time bubble and offering a unique floorshow featuring the end of the universe. • Protect your data from AI’s insatiable appetite | GSA

< News Protect your data from AI’s insatiable appetite 14 Apr 2026 AI-driven scrapers harvest vast amounts of web content to train models, often without consent. This can erode revenue, expose proprietary and private information, and create security risks as bots probe forms, logins, and APIs. Unchecked scraping not only risks your valuable business intelligence and intellectual property, it also fuels downstream misuse of your content and customer data. More serious than lost page views and duplicated content inhibiting SEO, AI scraping can lead to privacy breaches and automated attacks that exploit exposed endpoints. Legal remedies are slow! Technical controls should be your first line of defence. How to protect your site and data • Audit and classify sensitive endpoints such as forms, APIs, and subscriber content. • Harden access with authenticated APIs, strict Cross-Origin Resource Sharing, and robust rate limits. • Use bot management and Content Delivery Networks that detect behaviour-based scraping and block suspicious traffic at the edge. • Deploy CAPTCHAs, honeypots, and fingerprinting to distinguish humans from automated agents. • Monitor and respond with IP blocking, anomaly alerts, and takedown processes when misuse is discovered. Add MFT to your Defences Managed File Transfer (MFT) provides a secure, auditable channel for moving files and sensitive data between systems and partners. MFT platforms, such as the industry-leading GoAnywhere MFT , offer end-to-end encryption, role-based access, detailed audit trails, and automated workflows that reduce ad-hoc file sharing. They can close common gaps that scrapers and opportunistic bots exploit. Modern MFT solutions also simplify compliance with regulations by centralising transfer policies and logging, and they outperform legacy FTP/SFTP setups by adding visibility and automated validation. For organisations handling high volumes of sensitive transfers, MFT reduces risk while improving operational reliability and incident response. Layer IT Up Protecting content in the AI era requires layers: legal notices and copyright may help, but technical controls - rate limits, bot detection, continuous monitoring, and secure transfer platforms like MFT - stop most AI scrapers before they can create a problem. Start with a risk inventory and add MFT everywhere that file movement is business-critical.
